First America Homes, the home-building division of The Signorelli Company, is partnering with HomeAid Houston to construct a 4,224-square-foot day center for families who are coping with crisis situations that have led to homelessness. The Day Center called Promise House is being built for Family Promise of Lake Houston (FPLH), a 501(c)(3) charity in Humble. The day center will provide a caring and positive environment for children and their families while they design and implement a plan to break the cycle of homelessness.
Promise House will offer counseling and admin offices, locker rooms, bath facilities, a family room, kitchen, a child’s playroom, and a dining room and library.
“This beautiful design captures the feel of a home-like setting,” said Patrick Mayhan, president of HomeAid. “The team from First America Homes has taken this project from its initial vision through design and now the pre-construction stages. We can’t thank them enough for their commitment to helping families struggling to get back on their feet, and look forward to breaking ground in the coming weeks.”
Families receiving assistance from FPLH are reeling from a variety of crisis situations including fire, flood, the death of a spouse, loss of a job, an eviction, or a foreclosure of a home. Promise House will replace the existing FPLH offices and will double its current capacity.
“We are excited to break ground soon on HomeAid Houston’s Promise House,” said Alyssa Douglass, marketing director for The Signorelli Company. “We are honored to partner with HomeAid to provide a facility that will help families facing homelessness get back on their feet, providing stability in their daily lives.”
Additional funders to the project include The William Stamps Farish Fund, Albemarle Foundation, Ascentium Capital and Avis Charitable Foundation.
HomeAid has been building transitional housing for homeless care agencies throughout Houston and surrounding counties since 2003. The first shelter was dedicated in 2005. Since then, 50 projects have been completed, adding more than 437 beds and $12,600,000 in real estate construction and improvements to Houston’s homeless community. Annually, HomeAid’s projects serve more than 5,000 homeless men, women, children and veterans in Houston.
