HomeAid Houston announced that its 14th annual Project Playhouse, a partnership with the Houston Astros and the Astros Charitable Foundation, will be observing safe distancing by joining the lineup of Live Events at CityCentre over three days in August, in lieu of showcasing at Minute Maid Park. The playhouse is called Mission Control and features spaceship-designed amenities and decor, including an operable Dutch-style spaceship door, a detachable slide, a flat screen TV, gaming system and gaming chairs to make manning Mission Control comfortable and space-themed furniture. The playhouse is also air conditioned and includes electricity.

On Aug. 28, 29 and 30, the public will be able to learn more about the playhouse amenities while they enjoying live entertainment in the Plaza. Over these three evenings, entertainment includes Quimbara Latin Band, Guillermo Serpas (Nuevo Flamenco Guitar), and Mike Donohue Duo Christian Inspirational music. Additional fun attractions will also be offered outdoors, keeping social distancing a top priority.

HomeAid Houston, a 501(c)(3) charity of the Greater Houston Builders Association partnered with First America Homes, the home building division of The Signorelli Co. to construct the playhouse. First America provided the design, construction and the storage of Mission Control. Funds raised will ensure that HomeAid will continue their mission “to build new lives for homeless families and individuals through housing and community outreach.”

The playhouse is designed in size to meet the standard Houston community deed restrictions, and is also modular to make it easy to transport and install. For more information about the playhouse, visit HomeAid’s website at

“We can’t thank CityCentre enough for inviting Project Playhouse to be included on their calendar for Live at CityCentre,” said Carole Brady, executive director of HomeAid Houston. “It is an honor to work with the Astros and the Astros Charitable Foundation every year on this fun way to raise awareness and funds. The current restrictions are challenging but they haven’t deterred the heart and spirit of the playhouse team. We also thank the First America crew and all of the generous sponsors who have stepped up during an unprecedented time to ensure Mission Control raises valuable funds that will build hope in our community.”
